Michael’s Thoughts On FRINGE – Season 3

Hey guys, I’m back and ready to talk more Fringe with you all!!! First of all, I got Season 3 done in 5 days. Sorry it took so long, I’ve had school and other things I had to work around to even get that, and with 10 days to go until the fifth and final season starts, I think I can get in one more season. But before I get to far ahead of myself, let me first review Season 3.

When Season 3 starts, it started where I thought it would, with Olivia trapped on the other side. However, I thought that the Bolivia/Olivia “Parent-Trap/Freaky-Friday” arc lasted about 6 episodes to long (it lasted 8 episodes). However, some highlights of the arc include, Henry the cab driver, Walternate’s evil plot, the awesome Lincoln Lee, the Candyman episode, and the return of Charlie Francis! What can I say, I love Charlie (and his spiders)! However, the entire arc I was thinking to myself: 1. When will this be over? and 2. If Peter really loved Olivia, wouldn’t he be able to tell her and her doppelganger apart? Oh well! Lincoln Lee was probably my favorite new character this season. I really liked his relationship with Olivia and Charlie on the Fringe Division. I did not, however, enjoy the Earth-1 Lincoln that much. I thought he was way to “Batman Begins: Jonathan Crane-ish”. But that’s just me.

On the other hand, the episodes after that were better. Olivia putting off her relationship with Peter for 7 episodes was a bit of a stretch, but other than that it was fine. As for Walter, I really enjoyed him this season, I think he’s starting to develop more and isn’t as help-less as he used to be (plus, on occasion, he can remember Astrid’s name!). As for Astrid, I think she was played up a lot more this season and I liked that. Glad to see her on the front lines in both Earth-1, Earth-2, and the Alternate-Future of Earth-1. Speaking of, the penultimate episode was brilliant! I thought it was one of the best episodes of the season, however, I did not like the finale that much because at first, I was confused (because of the time jump). Once I got adjusted it was fine, but then we went back to the present and it got confusing again, especially when Peter disappeared.

But before I go into that, let me just say that Peter has been so good this season. He’s focused, he’s in love, he’s been the sacrificial lamb, he’s been everywhere and done everything (and everyone… Except Astrid!). I especially liked his scene with Walternate in the finale. It just shows you how much he’s really grown since Pilot way back when (only a week and a half for me, longer for you). I also wanted to point out that Anna Torv’s acting skills have been greatly increased. She’s played Olivia (a lot better now), Bolivia (a big change from Olivia), and William Bell (her accent on that was AMAZING). She’s a lot better this season. Also, that episode where they go into Olivia’s mind and become cartoon characters, oh my lord!!! That was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen on a TV show! I didn’t expect that at all!!! It made my day (well, was one of two things…).

My predictions/hopes for Season 4: Peter has been erased from history, so so has his baby with Bolivia! Astrid needs more to do. Lincoln Lee of Earth-1 comes back. Walternate dies? Olivia and Peter get married. And last, but not least, Charlie Francis, William Bell, John Scott, and Gene. Nuff said!

SEASON RATING – 4/5, Another solid season, but unfortunately, things like the Olivia/Bolivia arc were to drawn-out.
