Hey there. My name's Daniel, calling from Exeter, New Hampshire. This happened to me back in September of 1965. I was eighteen years old at the time, just graduated high school that June, and I was three weeks away from shipping out to the Navy. I'd enlisted, signed all the papers, everything was set. So on September 3rd, early in the morning, around 2 AM, I was hitchhiking home from Amesbury, Massachusetts. I'd been visiting my girlfriend at her parents' place, about ten miles southeast of Exeter. I'd recently sold my car, needed the money, so hitchhiking was how I got around back then. Not a lot of traffic at that hour, so I ended up walking most of it along Route 150. I was just outside Exeter, in Kensington, when I first saw the lights. At first, I thought maybe it was a police car or a fire truck, you know, those flashing red lights in the distance. But as I got closer, I realized the lights weren't on the road. They were in the air, just above the trees.
There were five of them. Five bright red lights, flashing on and off, hovering maybe thirty or forty feet off the ground. They were illuminating this field and two houses nearby in this brilliant red light. Everything was just bathed in red. One of the houses belonged to the Dining family, they weren't home. The other was the Russell place. The object itself, I'd say it was about 80 to 90 feet across. Huge. As big as a house, maybe bigger. And it was completely silent. That's what got me. No engine sound, no rotor blades, nothing. Just dead quiet. Then it started moving toward me. I'm standing there on the side of Route 150 in the middle of the night, and this massive thing with flashing red lights is coming straight at me. I panicked. I dove into the ditch beside the road, just threw myself down. I thought it was going to hit me. out there alone at 2 AM sounds terrifying - Emmett' The object changed direction. It moved over to the Dining farmhouse and just hovered there, right over the roof. I took that chance to get out of the ditch and run. I ran to the Russell house, started pounding on their door, yelling for help. No one answered. They told me later they heard me but were too scared to open the door.
So I'm standing there, pounding on this door, and the object starts moving away, back toward the woods. It just floated off and disappeared over the trees. I ran back to the road, and thank God, there was a car coming. I ran right out into the middle of Route 150 and forced them to stop. It was a couple, middle-aged man and woman. I must have looked crazy, but I begged them to take me to the police station in Exeter. They drove me there, and I burst into the station. The officer on the desk that night was Raymond Tucker, everyone called him Scratch. He knew me, I'd lived in Exeter my whole life. He could see I was shaken up, pale, my hands were shaking. I told him everything that just happened. Scratch radioed Officer Edward Barrett, who was out on patrol. When Edward got to the station and heard my story, he mentioned something. Earlier that night, he'd stopped to help a woman on Route 108. She was sitting in her car, terrified, and she told him a huge object with flashing red lights had followed her car for twelve miles, all the way from Epping to Exeter. Edward thought she was a kook at the time, didn't even file a report. But after hearing my story, he decided maybe she wasn't crazy after all.
