Look, I know how this sounds. I really do. But I need to tell you what happened to me and my cousin Alison back in August of 2009. We were driving along Nowendoc Road, you know, out near Mount George, and we saw something that night that I still can't explain. I mean, I've tried. God knows I've tried to make sense of it. But there's no getting around what we both saw. So anyway, it was about seven thirty in the evening. We'd been visiting some friends up in the mountains, nothing out of the ordinary, just a regular Tuesday night. The sun was going down, you know how it gets out there in August, getting dark earlier. We were heading back towards Taree, taking Nowendoc Road because it's the quickest way through that area. It's pretty isolated out there, I'm not gonna lie. The road just kind of winds through the bush, parallels the mountain range for miles. You don't see many other cars.
Now, this area, the whole region around Mount George, it's right in the heart of the Great Dividing Range. It's between Taree to the east and the Barrington Tops to the west. Rough country, you know. Dense forest, steep valleys. The kind of place where you could walk a hundred yards off the road and be completely lost. People who know the area, they'll tell you there's been stories about strange things in those mountains for years. Going way back. We were coming up on Connelly's Creek Gap. I remember that clearly because there's this bend in the road there, and you've got to slow down a bit. The headlights were on by then, obviously. And that's when Alison just grabbed my arm. She didn't say anything at first, just pointed ahead. And I looked, and I swear to you, there was something standing on the side of the road. At first, I thought maybe it was a really big kangaroo. You know how sometimes they'll just stand there by the road? But no. No, this was standing upright. Completely upright, like a person. But it wasn't a person. It was way too big, and it was covered in hair.
I slowed the car right down, maybe to about twenty kilometers an hour. We were maybe thirty, forty feet away from it. The headlights were shining right on it. And this thing, it just stood there, looking at us. I could see its face. That's the part that really gets me. I could see its face. It had to be at least seven feet tall, maybe taller. Massively built through the shoulders and chest. The hair was dark, kind of a reddish brown color, and it was long, shaggy looking. brown hair is consistently described across the Great Dividing Range - Taylor' The arms were so long, they hung down past its knees. And the face, Jesus, the face was almost human. Wide nose, deep set eyes. But definitely not human. Something else. Alison was frozen. I mean completely frozen in her seat. And I just kept the car rolling slowly, because I didn't know what else to do. Should I stop? Should I speed up? My brain wasn't working right. This thing was just staring at us. And then, after what felt like forever but was probably only five or six seconds, it turned and walked off into the bush. I mean walked. Not on all fours like an animal. It walked on two legs, just stepped over the guardrail and disappeared into the trees.
